Venice at Her Mirror

The notion of the prose poem is often bandied about, usually meaning a limp prose that props up a limp idea of poetry. Such is not the case here. This is a vision of Venice, its place in history, in which the style – the technique – is a bracelet of mythic hair about the bone. The style is the vision. We move with Marteau through the seasons of history as she gives us a completely original view of who the Venetians were, and are.
