In the White Hotel

Claire Weissman Wilks’ drawings – like no one else’s in the world – capture the fantasy, the craving for brutality, and the lush sexuality that was inherent in the death camps, and death pits like Babi Yar. That is why D.M. Thomas – author of The White Hotel, a world-wide best-seller that the New York Times called “amazing” and “heart-stunning” – asked her to produce drawings to accompany poems from the novel. These are the drawings, these the long IV-part poem. It is a perfect collaboration.
