Michel Beaulieu, who died suddenly in 1986, was one of Quebec’s most prolific writers, the author of three novels and more than twenty books of poetry. Variables received the Prix de la revue Etudes français in 1973, Desseins the first Grand prix littéraire du Journal de Montréal in 1981, and Visages the Governor General’s Award in 1982. Beaulieu’s poems have been translated into several languages, among them, English, Italian, Rumanian, German, and Spanish, and Kaleidoscope was awarded the F.R. Scott Translation Prize.
